Southern Haiti is home to countless natural treasures that can be discovered on foot. Not far from the village of Port-à-Piment, the Marie-Jeanne cave is one of the most beautiful and longest caves in the West Indies. The entrance to the Marie-Jeanne cave is located on a hill and dense vegetation seems to jealously guard this curious little secret. According to scientists, it was formed about 60 million years ago. Its 2.5 miles of long passages extend over five levels and only three of which have been studied in detail. A visit to the Marie-Jeanne cave takes you down into the depths of Haiti. Guided walks lasting from 1 to 4 hours allow you to explore the 56 various chambers and contemplate the wonders of tropical nature. The cave is also home to small animals such as bats and birds and marine life is believed to have developed in a freshwater lake on the 5th level. Source: https://ift.tt/3lOADRM
