Martelly Strengthens Security at Expense of Aristide



PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - It was leaked on Tuesday that the security services of President Michel Martelly received 6 new armored vehicles for the administration.

Reported by Haïti LIBRE , the president felt the need to replace vehicles left in poor condition from the previous administrations.

Along with these 6 material resources came human resources as well. HL reported that the number of members of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide's security forces were taken for the benefit of the current president.

Lavalas activists complained of the measures saying, "the security team of President Aristide has been reduced to almost nothing." "This is worrisome... we need to know where we stand, we must do something to protect our leader."

It was reported on Saturday, the appointment to head the administration's security forces, Signal FM Haiti CEO Mario Viaud.

Mario Viaud as well as managing one of Port-au-Prince's well know radio stations also owns P.A.P. S.A., a private security firm.
