HAITI - new nutritional and health centres for 10,000 children who are victims of malnutrition


Port - au-Prince (Agenzia Fides) - the challenge of healing the wounds of the thousands of people affected by the severe earthquake that struck Haiti in January 2010 continues. Organizations with this challenge, to include the Association of volunteers for international Service (AVSI), this through many activities. Currently, the Association works towards three new centres nutritional at Port - au Prince as well as equipment and the training of five basic health centres sis in Les Cayes (Torbeck commune). That allows to reach more than 10,000 children of Haiti, victims of malnutrition, the latter is being aggravated after the earthquake of January 2010 concrete help. It is this reflected in a note by AVSI received at the Agency Fides, which emphasizes the desire of the Association to support the population in Port - au-Prince and area Torbeck.
In the first case, carried out the first work of restructuring while in the second, the laboratories have been staffed thermometers, of personal weighing machines, chairs, otoscopes, disinfectants and what can be more useful to a health centre. Is also promoted the training of medical and paramedical, staff action involving 150 people. But the beneficiaries of such projects are many more: more than 10,000 children of Port - au-Prince (neighbourhoods of Cité Soleil and Martissant) who will thus have new nutritional centres equipped with prevention, care, counselling services and food and health education. The presence of the centres in question will also interest 8.370 families of Torbeck (Department South) area.
